Last week, we had a STAAR review and postponed our regular reading and lessons.  This week, we will go back to our regular lessons beginning with film viewing of Act I. Please follow the schedule this week.

This week, we will postpone our regular readings and lessons to focus on the STAAR test.  We will review the following:

Monday: Persuasive Essay
Tuesday: Expository Essay
Wednesday: Reading multiple choice and SAR questions
Thursday: Revising and Editing multiple choice questions

Writing: Persuasive Essay

  • SAT vocab notes Act II O#s 8-15 - due: Wednesday, March 20
Activities:

On Monday when you get back from the break, you will take a quiz covering last week's vocabulary and Act I of Othello.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, you will write the first draft of a persuasive essay and conference with me. 
  • Wednesday - Dr. McConn will discuss the STAAR test and the difference between  persuasive and expository essay.
On Thursday and Friday, we will continue reading and discussing Othello and watch a little bit more of the film adaptation of the play.

Week #26 March 4-8, 2013

Short reading: an essay
Appeals: pathos, logos, ethos
Writing: Sentence structure
Vocabulary: Act II #s 8-15 spur, infirmity, frailty, babble, prate, clamor, importune, dilatory

Homework:

  • SAT vocab notes - due: Wednesday, March 6
Monday - Friday
WARM-UP exercise: SAT question of the day
  • Due to the shortened period schedule on Monday, we will continue to read the play and discuss questions and answers.
  • We will take a vocabulary quiz on Tuesday.  It will cover the vocabulary words from the week before and Shakespearean drama terms.
  • Continue to read and discuss Othello on Tuesday.
  • We will have WITS writing on Wednesday. 
  • On Thursday, we will look at an essay and edit and revise it as a class.
  • Students will bring their rewritten essay on Friday. 
  • Students will read an article and identify examples of logos, ethos, and pathos in it. While students are reading, select students will conference with me about the essay written previously.
  • Part of the time in class on Friday will be spent on sentence structure.
